Aqua Voice review (2026): pros, cons and new October prices

Aqua Voice is a cloud dictation app known for accurate, fast transcription. What do its users praise, and what gives them pause? We grouped public reviews by type and checked them against the official pages, along with a price change we spotted this October.

This article is written by the company that makes SayonaraType. SayonaraType is in the same category as Aqua Voice. We chose both positive and critical feedback by the same standard: public, with a traceable source.

Aqua Voice is a cloud dictation app that inserts text at your cursor

Aqua Voice turns what you say into text and enters it where your cursor is. It's made by Aqua Voice, Inc. in the US, a company from Y Combinator's Winter 2024 batch. It runs on Mac, Windows and iPhone, and an Android app launched on 2026-10-061.

The headline is "Talk into your apps." In the middle of the page, a voice instruction goes into the input field of an AI coding tool (Claude Code).

  • How it works: hold a key such as Space and speak, and text appears in the field
  • Use cases it highlights: AI prompts, chat and email
  • Processing: cloud. Whether it works offline depends on platform, app version and mode

Aqua Voice changed its prices in October 2026

We checked the same pricing page on 2026-10-23 and 2026-10-25. Between those two days, the prices changed.

Plan Shown on 10-23 Shown on 10-25
Pro (billed monthly) $10 $12
Pro (per month, billed annually) $8 $10
Max (billed monthly) $30 $24
Max (per month, billed annually) $24 $19

Pro went up, and Max went down. We confirmed this wasn't a misread of the billing toggle in three ways:

  • The current official FAQ says in plain text that Pro is $10 a month billed annually, or $12 billed monthly
  • A third-party pricing roundup dated 2026-10-20 lists Pro at $10 a month ($8 a month billed annually)
  • A user write-up from January 2026 lists Pro at $96 a year ($8 a month)

We found no announcement of the change on the official blog or changelog2.

The free allowance is unchanged at 1,000 words in total, with no credit card required.

Praise in the reviews we checked: accurate recognition and fast results

Positive feedback What they say Example sources
Accurate recognition Few errors and good punctuation; less time spent fixing Hacker News (Show HN)3
Fast Little delay before text appears; quick to start Product Hunt reviews4
Good for AI prompts Especially useful when explaining what you want from an AI An article on @IT, a Japanese IT publication (2026-01-08)5
Helps people with hand or reading difficulties Users with carpal tunnel syndrome or dyslexia said it helped Hacker News Launch HN (Mar 2024)6

The numbers (as of 2026-10-25)7:

  • App Store (US): 4.4 stars (99 ratings)
  • App Store (Japan): 4.3 stars (253 ratings)
  • Product Hunt: 5.0 stars (16 reviews); #2 Product of the Day on 2025-04-15

For a US company's app, it has more than twice as many App Store ratings in Japan as in the US. That suggests notable interest there, though rating counts don't show how many people use it

The changelog shows steady updates, including an Android app and better dictionary matching

The official changelog lists improvements in detail.

The 2026-10-06 entry, "More accurate Japanese dictation," says two things:

  • 33% fewer errors when dictating in Japanese (Aqua Voice's own claim; it doesn't say how this was measured)
  • Names, brands and terms from your dictionary are recognized by how they sound, so they come out written the way you saved them

The same day also brought the Android app. Language-specific improvements are announced in the changelog, so it's worth checking for your language.

Concerns in the reviews we checked: cloud-only processing and the monthly fee

Concern What they say Example sources
Cloud only People don't want audio leaving their computer, or want to use it offline Hacker News Show HN (Apr 2025)8
Monthly fee Paying even in months you don't use it; some switched to free tools or the OS's built-in dictation Hacker News8
Occasional instability Paste glitches, shortcuts not responding Product Hunt reviews9
Long dictation gets wordy Speaking for 30 seconds or more tends to produce unnatural, wordy text @IT article (2026-01-08)5

"Cloud only" isn't unique to Aqua Voice; it's a question for every cloud tool.

  • You want a tool that keeps audio on your Mac → look at tools that process locally (Local here means your audio is turned into text on your Mac instead of being sent over the internet; features such as formatting, sync or logs may still go online, so check each tool.)
  • Sending it is fine as long as it isn't stored or used for training → check the data-handling page

Aqua Voice's privacy policy says that if Privacy Mode is off, it may store transcript data as needed to improve the product. We recommend checking your Privacy Mode setting before you start. How to think about these checks is covered in “Is local dictation safer?”

Read nextIs local AI dictation safer? Local vs cloud and their limitsProcessing your voice locally, so it never leaves your Mac, is a reassuring choice. But a Mac's computing power is limited, and that shows up in how well it hears you and how well it cleans up your text. And if you use a cloud tool, what should you check to use it with confidence? We lay out the limits of both.

Feedback specific to the Japanese language is covered in our Japanese edition. One person reported lower accuracy with a Bluetooth earbud microphone, and that the iPhone app was hard to use with VoiceOver.

How we checked

We checked Aqua Voice's pricing and changelog on its official pages on 2026-10-23, 2026-10-25 and 2026-10-26, and took screenshots. For user feedback, we read public reviews on the App Store, Product Hunt and Hacker News, along with published write-ups, and grouped them by type. We did not measure recognition quality ourselves.
